The Broken Ladder

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Can you imagine an old wooden ladder with broken and missing rungs? That?s the image that popped in my head as I listened to Paul Craig Roberts on this episode of Chuck Harder?s show, For the People. Mr. Roberts is the former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during the Reagan Administration as well as a well known and award-winning columnist. He discusses with Chuck their joint belief that we- the United States- are fast becoming a third world country. Why? Because we are losing jobs through out-sourcing and so-called Free Trade that provide upward mobility (hence the image of the ladder). We are, according to these gentlemen, losing the middle class in America due to the globalization of labor. And we are no longer, says Roberts, a super power. We abdicated that role when because of hubris in our government leaders, horrid mistakes have been made. And if you?ve ever wondered why China and other nations would acquire our huge daily debts, Roberts has a thought on that too. Heavy duty stuff here and well worth a listen. Click here to do so. Mr. Roberts? articles can be accessed by going to VDare.com/Roberts.

Vanishing Class

Monday, November 28th, 2005

I consider myself to be a part of the middle class in America. I, thankfully, have enough food to eat and a good roof over my head but, on the other hand, I definitely do not have a Porsche in my driveway nor does my roof cover an enormous mansion. According to the guest of Chuck Harder on his show, For the People, I am part of a fast disappearing segment of the population. Dr. Dennis Cuddy, PhD is Chuck Harder?s guest on this episode. Chuck describes him as a political observer. Cuddy says that the middle class is what drives an economy but that we are being forced into a world order economy by increased inflation, down-sizing and out-sourcing, and debt. The middle class, he says, is being wiped out. To hear more of what he says, click here.

Victor’s Visions

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Victor Mordecai is back visiting with host Chuck Harder and again the conversation is about the influence and impact of the fanatic faction of Islam. Victor is passionate about his beliefs and his visits with Chuck are always interesting. He says that the word in Israel is that Al Qa?ida is responsible for the rioting in France. Hmmm. If you are wondering if the Mexicans who cross our border would ever rise up and riot, Victor says no. They have no designs to take over our country as do the believers in fanatic Islam. And, you heard it here, Victor believes that America is going to invade Saudi Arabia. You can click here to listen to his reasoning. Victor latest book,? Is Fanatic Islam a Global Threat?? is available by clicking here.

Mama, I’m Hungry

Monday, November 7th, 2005

One in five children in America- the land of plenty- will go to bed hungry tonight. That?s not what we want to hear or acknowledge but those are the facts, according to J. Larry Brown of the Institute on Asset and Social Policy from Brandeis University (AssetInstitute.org). Americans who live under the poverty level of $19,000/year is 13%. That means that 38.2 million Americans do not have enough food in their homes on a daily basis. This is the 5th straight year that there has been an annual increase-up a whopping 43% from 5 years ago. Why are we in this mess, host Chuck Harder asks? And the bottom line answer is we have no cornerstone hunger policy. There are programs in place that could certainly change the program but no one in Congress is stepping forward to lead the charge. Chuck says it?s because they all belong to the ?I?ve Got Mine Club?. Click here to listen to this disturbing but important podcast.

Nowhere to Hide

Friday, November 4th, 2005

The other day I wrote a blog called Beyond Big Brother. It had to do with RFIDs. So does this one. Liz McIntyre has co-authored a book called Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move with RFID. Host Chuck Harder starts this interview by asking for a definition of RFID and Liz complies. From that point on, the conversation becomes a little frightening when they talk about all the possible- and Liz says probable- applications of this new technology. There are some people now who have an RFID implanted in their arm for identification purposes. What happens if the government comes along and says everyone must have one and by that time the RFIDs also have GPS? You could be tracked wherever you go. Is this privacy abuse? The unethical and criminal possibilities are limitless. But like any new technology, there are good sides to it. The question is what safeguards are in place? Beyond Big Brother

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

Ever hear the term RFIDs? If not, you will. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. And they are everywhere. In the clothes you buy, the books you take out of the library, in credit cards, in the key to your car ignition, even in some humans. They are little itty-bitty chips and they are changing the way things are tracked and sometimes secured. Chuck Harder asks lots of questions of his guest, John Longenecker Jr, about these RFIDs which is a good thing since I never heard about them either. Have you seen that commercial on TV where a truck comes to a screeching halt because there is a lady at a desk in the middle of the road? The truck driver leans out and says ?what are you doing!?!? She responds by saying, ?You?re lost. You?re boxes told me.? Guess what she?s referring to. Yep, RFIDs. Anyway, Longenecker has some concerns about them. The first one is about the loss of privacy as your buying habits are tracked. And then he envisions RFIDs being embedded in money. He wonders what happens when the criminal element gets hold of the readers for the RFIDs. They will be able to ?read? who is carrying large amounts of money or who has copious stashes of money in their homes. Longenecker?s book ?The Battle We Fight: Battling Potomac Fever to Recapture Our Homes and Communities? takes a look at these RFIDs. (You can own this book by clicking here.) And about the money you keep at home? Host Chuck has a clever idea. Click here to find out what he suggests.

And the Winner Is…

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

It?s not often that Chuck has a guest on his show, For the People, that does not hold many of the same viewpoints as does Chuck. But that happened in this show. Oh, there was some agreement, such as the belief that our federal fiscal policy is abominable. But there were quite a few times in this discussion that guest Professor Robert LaLonde would make a statement and Chuck would disagree and then Chuck would say something and the prof would make an opposing statement. Chuck believes that globalization is what is causing the demise of our economy while LaLonde feels that technological change is the culprit. So who?s the winner? You, the listener are, because you get to hear both sides. Click here to do so.
