And the Magic Number Is…

Monday, July 31st, 2006

How much would you pay for gasoline before you said to yourself, ?Whoa. I?ve got to cut back on my gasoline consumption.?? Would it be $3.25, $3.50, $4.00?? The guest of Chuck Harder, Dr. Jay Lehr, thinks that the magic number may be $4.00/gal.? Chuck is the host of ?For the People? and he says that he feels sucker-punched with the fuel situation.? He thinks, perhaps, that it will take at least 5 to 10 years before we get ourselves out of the fuel situation we are in.? His guest, Dr. Lehr, says he thinks it may take as long as 20 years or more.? He figures that during the rest of his lifetime we will still be energy dependent on other countries since it will take at least twenty years to get more nuclear plants up and running.? Is nuclear the only recourse?? No.? And what is the beginning step when people have finally reached the tipping point, the ?Gas is how much??, the ?I?m ready to change my habits so I don?t have to spend so much on fuel??? The beginning step is what it has always been: conservation of energy.? Lehr, who is the Science Director of Heartland Institute (Heartland.org) says that in the last year our consumption of oil products has risen 6/10 of 1%.? That may not seem like much but it is huge.? Guess we haven?t reached the tipping point yet, huh?? Click here to listen to this podcast. We would like to thank the sponsor of today?s show:

Who’s Who

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Somewhere in my many years of schooling, I was required to read Dostoevsky?s ?The Brothers Karamozov?.? I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed when I saw a list of all the characters in the book.? I thought, ?Holy cow, how will I ever keep all the players straight with so many??? Then I realized that the printed list inside the front cover was an aid to do just that- to help me keep track of who was who.? That is the same feeling I had as I listened to this program of Chuck Harder?s ?For the People?.? His guest is Tony Badran, a Research Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (DefendDemocracies.org).? Badran?s work focuses on Lebanon and Syria and he is also the co-editor of Arab Democracy Digest, an FDD publication ?highlighting liberal voices in the Middle East?.? In this podcast, you will hear about all the players in the Middle East- and a couple of players who are sitting on the sidelines.? It is reminiscent of the list of characters in a novel by Dostoevsky.? Besides just listing all the different factions, Badran also says that the media is being manipulated by Hezbollah, at least those who are allowing themselves to be manipulated.? As an example, he mentions Nick Patterson of CNN who was given a ?tour? by Hezbollah and reported everything they said and showed him as the whole truth.? On the other hand, says Badran, Cooper Anderson, also of CNN, was given the same type of thing but added a disclaimer at the beginning and at the end of that tape. When Chuck asks about either the possibility of a cease-fire or letting the whole thing between Israel and Lebanon hopefully peter-out, Badran replies by saying that we will have to wait until the dust settles a bit to see what might happen.? Click here to listen to the discussion and to find out who?s on the sidelines and why they should stay there.?

Speaking Forthrightly

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

?The greatest country in the world is governed by 535 self-serving idiots.?? So says Mark Amtower, the guest on Chuck Harder?s ?For the People? on TalkStarRadio.? Amtower is the CEO of Government Express (GovernmentExpress.com), which is a business to help small businesses understand what it takes to get a government contract.? Sure hope Amtower is more diplomatic when it comes to telling those small businesses how to communicate with government agencies.? On the other hand, one gets the feeling that you know exactly where you stand with Amtower.? Chuck says that he is an expert on government spending and government agencies and so the conversation revolves loosely around financial issues.? Amtower?s suggestion is that we go from a FY to FY (fiscal year to fiscal year) budget to a multiyear budget.? Why?? Because with the way things are now, if an agency does not use (spend) everything that is in their budget, then they not only lose it but their budget is decreased for the following year.? Hel-lo???? What kind of system is that?? That means that you can’t roll over any funds and you are rewarded for possibly spending irresponsibly.? Here?s another suggestion from Amtower:? All gifts, donations, and whatever else you want to call them from lobbyists must be reported publicly.? Amtower also has some interesting non-politicians that he supports- Have you heard of Kinky Freedman of Texas?? Click here to listen to this provocative podcast.

Renaissance Man

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Dr. Nick Begich may well be a renaissance man. Chuck Harder of the ?For the People? show says Begich is a scientist, political activist, researcher, a medical doctor and a legislator. He also is a frequent guest on Chuck?s show on TalkStarRadio. In the past they have spoken about various issues and items but today it?s all about oil. Begich says that we are not in as short a supply as we have been led to believe. He also states that we have available right now the techniques to make us oil independent from the Middle East. Begich (EarthPulse.com) is not as upbeat about the fact that we are any time in the near future going to be independent since there is no legislation that would help us curb our appetite for oil nor have we reached the level of discomfort that would compel people to cut back on their own. ?Until we feel the pain we won?t make the change.? How soon will we feel the pain? Well, how do you feel about gasoline at $5.00/gal.? That?s what Begich sees coming down the pike. Click here to listen to this podcast.

Ice Cream, Anyone?

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Envision an ice cream cone stacked high with 4 scoops. It?s a warm day. One of two things might very well happen. Either the ice cream topples to the ground or it starts melting faster than you can lick it. OK, now envision the current real estate market. One of two things might very well happen. Either it will crash down around everyone?s ankles or it will soften. The guest on Chuck Harder?s ?For the People? show is H. Rodney Johnson, author of ?Possessing Your Promised Land: Biblical Principles for Real Estate Acquisition?. He believes that the real estate market will not crash as it did in the early 1990?s but that it is definitely softening. We have been living, and buying, in a hyper-inflated market for the last three years and things are changing. Here?s one of the things that Chuck and his guest both see; more and more people are living in an upside down house; i.e. a house where what you owe is more than what you would get out of it if you could sell it. Scary stuff. You can click here to own the book and click here to listen to this podcast. As you listen, keep an ear open to how illegal immigration plays a part in the real estate market.

NAU

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Are you wondering what the heck NAU stands for? Well, it?s not a secret says Patrick Wood, editor of the August Review (AugustReview.com), but it?s also not widely known either. It is an acronym for North American Union, a north hemisphere version of the EU. Chuck Harder of the ?For the People? show along with his guest Wood, are alarmed about this proposal for making Canada, Mexico and the United States into one country or community. They see it as a movement by what they call the global elitists to eventually have one world order. Wood says that it is past the proposal stage and is well on its way. ?Our assets have been sold out from under us to other countries.? Chuck says that we are like a ship without a rudder but Wood disagrees. He says we are a ship with a rudder but that we need to look at whose hand is on the rudder. In the Red

Monday, July 24th, 2006

When I was growing up I received an allowance in return for doing certain chores around the house. I was encouraged to be responsible with that money- my folks taught me how to prepare and stick with a budget. If I wanted something but did not have enough money for it, the item waited until I had accrued the necessary funds. There was no going to the bank (Mom and Dad) and asking for a loan until the next week or month. In fiscal terms I think this is called the pay as you go rule. Harry Zeeve, from the Concord Coalition (ConcordCoalition.org), is the guest of Chuck Harder on this ?For the People? show and I think he would approve of Mom and Dad?s way of teaching about money. Unfortunately, those down in DC did not have the same parents I did. What Zeeve says is that they need to stop the ?gotcha? political tactics and stop this spending when we don?t have the monies to pay for whatever they want at the moment. He laments the fact that they just keep on passing the bills on to our children and grandchildren. The Concord Coalition is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization which is dedicated to bringing about a responsible fiscal policy. The plan is to educate the American people so they will bring pressure upon those in Washington to do what is right regarding our Federal finances. So when Chuck asks what can be done, Zeeve has some suggestions, starting with asking those running for a public office during this election time, questions such as ?How are you going to balance the budget?? Click here to listen to this podcast and find out what else Zeeve proposes can be done.

Elite Feudalism

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

In this episode of ?For the People? with host Chuck Harder, Harder confesses that he is finally going to do something that has been a longtime desire- he is going to spend a full hour with his guest, Dr. Dennis Cuddy. And he does. Dr. Cuddy (NewsWithViews.com) always has some interesting views and he does not fail to deliver in this show. He believes that within 20 or 30 years Israel, as we know it, will cease to be. There may still be people there but it will be more like a benevolent feudal system. As a matter of fact, he expresses the view that a feudalistic world is the goal of what he calls the Elitists, a world where there is no Middle Class and people are glad to receive the ?benefits? handed out by those in power. He feels that these people use either natural disasters (such as tsunamis or hurricanes) or manufactured ones (such as illegal immigration) to justify taking away more and more personal rights. You can click here to listen to the other views of Dr. Cuddy and Chuck?s views too.

Caught in the Middle

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Asaf Romirowsky has a name that may be difficult to say or spell for some of us. The topic he discusses with Chuck Harder on his ?For the People? show may be difficult for some of us to understand as well. The topic is the conflict in the Middle East. Romirowsky is a Campus Watch Associate Fellow with the Middle East Forum (MEForum.org) and a former Israel Defense (IDF) International Relations liaison officer in the West Bank. If you have been asking yourself what is going on in the Middle East and who are the players and why are they doing what they are doing, then this podcast may have some answers for you. As always, Chuck has some provocative questions for his guest- click here to find out what Romirowsky says in response to Chuck?s query regarding whether the Middle East situation should be left alone to burn out or have the UN involved.

There Is No Good News

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Robert Thomas Raming is back with Chuck Harder on the ?For the People? show. Raming (UniteAmericaNow.org) is a frequent guest and always has some thought provoking things to share. This show is no different. Chuck begins by saying that England now reports that they have identified 400,000 Muslims living in the U.K. who are sympathetic to the Jihad. Chuck asks Raming what are the British going to do under that threat. And Raming replies that he doesn?t think that the Muslims in Britain are any real threat. Instead he believes that England, along with the U.S. and other major countries, use such things as that report (or the ?so-called threat of Avian Flu?) to incite fear among their people and that it is through that fear that they control their people. As far as the war goes-or any war- it is encouraged because bankers make money when there is a war.
Raming then talks about the fact that from 1932-1935 five million Ukrainian farmers were starved to death through Joseph Stalin?s policy of collectivization. Raming says that it was done to break the spirit and the lives of the Ukrainians. He likens that horror to what is coming down the pike here in America- the NAIS (the National Animal Identification System). He contends that it is the first step to doing away with the small farmers (just as small manufacturing companies have been done away with) so the global elitists can take over. Raming has written a book titled ?The War and Death of the American Dream? which you can own by clicking here. To listen to this provocative podcast, click here.

What the Democrats Need To Do To Win In 2006 and Beyond.

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Every so often there are elections where the stakes are high and the outcome is a turning point in American history. Are we at such a crossroads as we approach the elections in 2006? Is the future of the country at stake? Have the Republicans botched the job so thoroughly that the Democrats will automatically win the next election? What has happened to the Democrats anyway; are they going to be able to ?get it together?? What do the Democrats have to do to win in 2006 and 2008??

Today?s guest is Dr. Robert P. Watson, Associate Professor of Political Science at Florida Atlantic University. He is the 2006 winner of the Distinguished Professor of the Year award at FAU. A frequent commentator on such media outlets as CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC and FOX, author of over 100 scholarly articles, and 25 books, including ?The Presidents? Wives? and ?George McGovern: A Political Life, A Political Legacy?.??????????????????? .??

?A life long Democrat, Dr. Watson passionately expresses his views on exactly what the Democrats need to do to win in 2006 and beyond, on Florida-VoiceInPolitics. He discusses why the Democrats have been losing, what the Republicans have been doing right, explains ?framing? and tells us why people vote the way they do. Are We Any More Secure?

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Peter and Jan Gadiel lost their 23 year old son James in the horror of 9-11. He was on the 103rd floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. They, along with others, have banded together to form 9-11 Families for a Secure America (911fsa.org). Peter is the guest of Chuck Harder on this program of ?For the People?. The topic is illegal immigration. The purpose of the coalition (911fsa) is to inform and educate the American public and elected officials about the shortcomings in the National security. Chuck starts by saying that Pres. Bush is a total globalist and that he just doesn?t seem to understand that we need border control to keep out illegal immigrants. Gediel responds by saying he doesn?t know if Pres. Bush doesn?t understand or if he just doesn?t care. He also indicates that many of our elected officials act as if they don?t care; that they seem to be only interested in what is going to get them elected the next time. Is there any good news, asks Chuck? Yes. Last year in May the Real ID Act was passed. This was after being defeated in 2004. But there were some House Representatives who stood up and helped to push it through. This basically means that by 2008, all states will be compelled to design driver?s licenses to meet anti-terrorists standards. This, Gediel believes, will be a first step in controlling illegal immigration. Click here to listen to this podcast.

“When in the Course…”

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

If you could choose to have one of our Founding Fathers here with us now, who would you select? How about Thomas Jefferson, the acknowledged author of the Declaration of Independence? I imagine this would be the overwhelming choice of Eric Petersen who is the guest on this program of ?For the People? with host Chuck Harder. Petersen is also the author of the book titled ?Light and Liberty: Reflections on the Pursuit of Happiness? which takes the thoughts and wisdom of Jefferson, culled from his myriad personal letters, and puts them in book form. Jefferson, believes Petersen, had a vision for the new country that included freedom, self-government, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Chuck asks what Petersen thinks Jefferson would think about our country today and Petersen feels that Jefferson would consider our country?s values under attack. Take for example, frugality. (According to the dictionary frugal means economical in use or expenditure.) Jefferson was all for being frugal ? he even pared down the debt during his term by 1/3. If he were around today with all the spending going on at the national level, he would probably be aghast. What would upset Thomas Jefferson the most, however, is the lack of history being taught in our schools, says Petersen. Without an understanding of where we have come from and what we stood for there will not be ?enough light in our society to sustain our liberty.? To own the book, click here. Something Fishy

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Did you know that the United States has only 3% of all the oil reserves in the world and that includes the oil in the ANWR (Artic National Wildlife Refuge)? Did you know that we import around 60% of our oil needs? This, according to the guest of Chuck Harder, is one reason that drilling for oil in the ANWR is not the answer to our energy problems. Actually, there is no one answer, says Tom Mast, author of the book, ?Over a Barrel: A Simple Guide to the Oil Shortage?. (To own the book, click here.) All the different ideas out there are really ?small potatoes? he says but they should be done. His big fear is that if people think that using ethanol, for example, is going to get us out of this jam, then they may become lazy and complacent about really getting ourselves out of this difficulty. Chuck asks Mast about the Dept. of Energy and Mast replies that for too long the oil industry has had a powerful influence on the Dept. and that it has an unbalanced energy policy. And that it is time for it to change. To hear this podcast, click here. Ethanol, by the way, Mast believes is a red herring.
