Can’t make up your mind about who you might vote for in the Presidential election in 2008? When Chuck and his guest, Myron Ebell of Competitive Enterprises, Inc. (CEI.org) first start talking it’s rather up in the air as to what the topic of the day is going to be. But it doesn’t take long for things to settle and for them to come down to earth about the discussion of the day- energy issues. Chuck really likes ethanol and is hopeful that an ethanol production plant will be opening soon in his area but Ebell is not as gung-ho about ethanol. He feels that it is expensive to produce right now and that we do not have all the technology available to make it cost effective. What he does say is that there are lots of alternatives out there; bio-diesel, wind, electricity, natural gas, coal, hydrogen, and solar. All of these are going to take some time, however, and none of them, by themselves, are going to be the single magic bullet. His solution is to work on all these but to begin drilling off-shore in those areas that have been off limits before. This is not a plan to bring joy to the conservationists but Ebell says that we need to be taking care of business at home. Click here to listen.

Perhaps you have wondered how an Israeli views what is going on in the world and about his views on terrorism.? Here?s your chance to find out one such person thinks.? His name is Kfir Luzzatto, guest of Chuck Harder on his show, ?For the People?.? Luzzatto, originally from Italy, immigrated to Israel in the 1970?s.? Chuck asks him why he wants to live there- yes it?s a great place and the Israelis have made it basically an oasis in the dessert but still why?? Luzzatto responds with a statement that reverberates with most people of their country- ?it?s my home?.? Chuck wants to know what it is like living in such a place where there are bombs and terrorists all the time and Luzzatto explains that except for such times as the last month and a half, there are no bombs all the time.? He also says that it is not so much that the Israelis are used to bombs as that they are accustomed to them which actually may be an advantage in this war against terrorism.
Luzzatto seems to agree with Chuck?s plan that the only way to rid the world of terrorists is to strike out at their families in much the same way we did with the a-bomb on Japan.? ?I would give them no peace? he says, and would tell them that they should be looking behind themselves all the time. Luzatto also takes the stand that France, like some other countries, has a tendency to stick their collective heads in the sand and ignore the severity of terrorism. There is, according to Chuck Harder on his ?For the People? show, a Muslim advocacy group that wants all media to stop using the words Muslim or Islamic in the same sentence with the word terrorists.? Chuck?s point of view is that that is what people are now thinking.? His guest, Jeff Johnson of CNSNews.com, agrees.? He goes on to ask that
if the Muslims are concerned with this linkage then why are they not rising up in outrage that a small faction of their faith, through their actions, have brought these suspicions upon the whole body.? Johnson says that if a small sect of, say Christians, did horrific things upon another group of people, that the larger body of Christians would be more than vocal in deploring their actions and denouncing them as not true Christians.? Johnson also expresses the thought that Americans would respond much faster if some other religious views were forced upon us than some other political views.? Hmmm.? Nathan Burchfiel (CNSnews.com) wants to talk about a recent poll that was undertaken by an organization called GrassFire.org.? Chuck Harder wants to talk about the Super Highway, the North America Super Corridor, the NAFTA Highway, the Trans-Texas Highway.? Take your choice; they are all the same thing.? So first they talk about the highway.? Actually, Chuck ?on this program of ?For the People?- does most of the talking to begin with since Nathan is not familiar with the Highway.? Most of us would not consider the most recent conflict between Hezbollah and Israel as a minor skirmish but that is how it actually started, according to Cathy Sultan, guest of Chuck Harder on his ?For the People? show.? Sultan is on the Board of Directors for the National Peace Foundation (NationalPeace.org).? She says that those types of skirmishes have been going on for 6 years but this time Hezbollah underestimated the consequences of their initial actions.? The National Peace Foundation is an organization that believes that peace can be created through education, conflict resolution and people-to-people exchanges.? Sultan?s views are based on having lived in the area for many years and having family in the area still.? She says that the conflict has often been an ?I?ll get you because you did that to me? sort of conflict.? She and Chuck discuss, not always agreeing, the situation there and she points out that it is imperative that we do not marginalize all Muslims because of a relatively small percentage.? At one point she accuses Chuck of making a sweeping statement about all Muslims.? When Chuck asks her what should and can be done to bring resolution to the area, she says that this Administration needs to shift gears and open up talks with Syria and Iran for how can there be any resolution if you can not even come to the discussion table.? Alex Konanykhin has experienced a lot in his short 39 years.? In his homeland of Russia he was an up-and-coming young man who made a fortune in the early 1990?s in the banking business and a close friend of President Yeltsin.? Then the political climate changes and his bank is taken over by the KGB.? He and his wife are kidnapped and finally escape to America.?

Unfortunately, his troubles are far from over.? Konanykhin is the guest of Chuck Harder on Harder?s ?For the People? show.? He and Chuck talk a little bit what Russia is like now- a booming economy that does not necessarily trickle down to the common people, that there is little opposition there- heaven forbid if you do, that the judges are even appointed by the government so there isn?t much justice.? Dr. Pat Choate, running mate of Ross Perot in 1996, author, economic commentator, and frequent guest of Chuck Harder is back on the For the People show.? The first thing on Chuck?s agenda is a discussion of the Trans-Texas Highway or, as Chuck calls it, the George W. Bush Sneaky Road.? Choate, who lives in Texas, tells Chuck that 800,000 acres will be taken over for this highway- that?s 145 acres for every mile of the interstate.? And he adds that if a rancher?s land is divided by the road that there will be no underpass to get to the other side.? In some cases the rancher will have to go 10 to 15 miles down the side of the highway to get access to the rest of his property.
This issue is not the only thing on the minds of Chuck and his guest; also on the discussion table is the lack of a viable energy plan, the Middle East, and the economy.? It seems somehow ironic that just earlier today my husband and I were having a conversation with our son?s girlfriend about debt.? Ironic because in this episode of Chuck Harder?s For the People Show who should be his guest but Eric Solis, founder and CEO of Ark 252, Inc., a company that created a way for people to purchase mutual funds on a daily basis (or at least on the 252 days that the stock market is open) for as little as $1.00 a day.? When I listen to the voice of Dorothy Drummond, guest of Chuck Harder on this show of For the People on TalkStarRadio, I picture this little gramma-type person who is sweet but doesn’t take any gruff from anybody. I think my mind picture is probably pretty accurate. She is a grandmother and she also is a retired teacher at the college level. She is a geographer and has an “abiding love of history”. On today’s show she and Chuck discuss the brew mixing in the Middle East. Drummond (author of “Holy Land, Whose Land: Modern Dilemma, Ancient Roots”) believes that we went to the Middle East with the best of intentions- to bring democracy to the region- but that we have muddied the waters. Chucks asks if there is a way out of this and she responds that she is not encouraged now. A couple of months ago, she believes things looked much better. Should we stay in Iraq or pull out? This is now a case, she feels, that “we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t”. As for our dependency on oil rich countries who do not like us, there is one bright spot on the horizon and its name is Azerbaijan. This is a country that has oil, does not like Russia or Iran, but they do like Israel and the United States. You know when you go to the grocery store and the bagger asks, “Paper or plastic”? How do you answer? The guest on Chuck Harder’s For the People show recommends neither. That’s because he is referring to money, not the container for your groceries. The guest is Andy Gause (AndyGause.com) and he is something of an expert on finances, currency, money. His recommendation when it comes to using money is paper- not plastic. But when asked, by Chuck, what is the best way to save for the future, the resounding answer is to put your savings into gold or silver, not stocks or bonds. Chuck also wants to know what Andy thinks about the Amero- the proposed North American currency similar to the Euro. Gause thinks it’s dead in the water; that the Federal Reserve will never let it happen but that he is going to keep an eye on it. Here’s something else to keep an eye on: according to Gause, Citgo (the oil company owned by the Venezuelan government) is going to stop supplying over 1600 gas stations on the West Coast so they can sell to China. Tim Carney used to be a writer for Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI.org). I say used to be because when he finished talking with Chuck Harder on Harder’s For the People? show he was going to a Going-Away party in his honor. Wednesday he starts a new job. However, the conversation today has to do with his book called “The Big Ripoff: How Big Business and Big Government Steal Your Money”. Carney gives some intriguing examples of his thesis. For example, did you know that big companies like Wal-Mart sometimes build on land that has been taken through Imminent Domain? Or that some big businesses such as Philip Morris help to push through more stringent regulations. They do so because the new regulations make it prohibitive for a small business to comply and thus the small business is then out of business. Or how about the fact that government actually has more help for big business than for the Mom and Pop business. Have you ever seen a three -legged milking stool? It may look a little unwieldy but is surprisingly stable and balanced. However, you take away two legs or even one leg and you find yourself sitting in something not very pleasant. Now let?s look at our so-called energy program. Basically we have been encouraged to do only one thing, says Chuck Harder’s guest, George Landrith, and that is conservation. Guess where that leaves us. Sitting in something not very pleasant. Landrith, who is the President of Frontiers of Freedom Institute (FF.org), says that what is needed is a three-pronged attack on the energy problems we are facing. What we need, he says, is a balanced program including using the fuels that we have available but not tapped into, conservation, and a push to develop alternate energy sources. Why haven’t the big oil companies been encouraged to do anything about alternative energy? It could be, as Landrith states, that government officials are tied to those same big oil companies and so are in no hurry to push forward with alternative energy ideas. The guest is ret. Gen. Dave Palmer. The name of his book is “George Washington and Benedict Arnold: A Tale of Two Patriots”. Palmer believes that, up to a certain point, Washington and Arnold shared many similarities in their backgrounds and abilities. His conversation with Chuck illustrates some of these and then tells when things began to fall apart for Arnold. Palmer also makes the interesting statement that what we see in Arnold- a lack of character- is also seen in some so-called patriots of today. Victor Mordecai says he has been a guest on the Chuck Harder show for 10 years. That’s a lot of history together. And it seem like every time he is on the ?For the People? show he always has a “bombshell” to drop. Today is no different. Mordecai is an American-born Jew who immigrated to Israel in 1968. Over the years and through various careers and studies, Mordecai has come to the conclusion that only through a Judeo-Christian alliance can Israel survive an Islamic attack and that the Islamic threat is first to Jews and Christians and then to the rest of the world. Something is blowing in the wind in Texas and it is not the smell of the legendary bluebonnets.? It is the odor of something not nearly as sweet.? This is, according to Dr. Pat Choate, the politics of those who are doing whatever is necessary to make the U.S., Mexico, and Canada one country.? What step are they taking?? It is something called the Trans-Texas Highway.? Some people call it the NAFTA Super Highway.?
