No Magic Bullet

When Chuck and his guest, Myron Ebell of Competitive Enterprises, Inc. (CEI.org) first start talking it’s rather up in the air as to what the topic of the day is going to be. But it doesn’t take long for things to settle and for them to come down to earth about the discussion of the day- energy issues. Chuck really likes ethanol and is hopeful that an ethanol production plant will be opening soon in his area but Ebell is not as gung-ho about ethanol. He feels that it is expensive to produce right now and that we do not have all the technology available to make it cost effective. What he does say is that there are lots of alternatives out there; bio-diesel, wind, electricity, natural gas, coal, hydrogen, and solar. All of these are going to take some time, however, and none of them, by themselves, are going to be the single magic bullet. His solution is to work on all these but to begin drilling off-shore in those areas that have been off limits before. This is not a plan to bring joy to the conservationists but Ebell says that we need to be taking care of business at home. Click here to listen.
