US Citizens Caught in the Drone War and a Preview of the State of the Union
Left, Right and Center is a weekly half-hour radio broadcast and podcast produced by KCRW in Santa Monica.
On this show the panelists begin by talking about the use of drones against US citizens abroad. The issue continues the debate about the use of torture. It also highlights the issue of the prison at Guantanamo Bay and the difficulty of capture versus elimination. The practice is very unpopular abroad. A few years from now other nations will possess the same technology and how will they treat this issue? Ends justify the means?
The panel also talks about the Republican Party trying to redefine itself and the news that the Post Office will discontinue Saturday service.
They also talk about the upcoming State of the Union Address and wonder if President Obama will address unemployment and jobs creation, a subject that he ignored in his Inaugural Address. They preview some other aspects of the upcoming Address.
The participants on the show are Robert Sheer who represents the left, Byron York who represents the right, Chrystia Freeland who represents the digital media, and Matt Miller, the moderator, who represents the center.
At the end of this entertaining show the participants each have a 30 second rant to summarize the issue that each sees as most significant.
